GEORGE BOUGHEY: Glorious Goodwood – Day Four
It was a brutal day on Thursday in the rain! writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.
I haven’t seen a downpour like that on a racecourse for a while. Our horses didn’t love the soft conditions, but all are ok and will be back to fight another day. We’ve got no runners at Goodwood on Friday but we have one at Newmarket tonight.

THURSDAY
LA SCANDERBEIDE – 7.27pm Newmarket
She was a little bit of a surprise winner on debut, but her work had been good, so it wasn’t a total shock. She steps up in grade here and has to carry a penalty, taking on a couple of other winners. I think 10 furlongs will be her trip in time, but she’s in as good a shape as she could be.
🏆 George’s King George Qatar Stakes pick
I’d be with Asfoora here in the 3.05pm on Friday. I saw her the other morning and thought she looked a lot better in herself than she did before Royal Ascot. Without the penalty last year, I’m sure she’d have won (she was second) and if she can repeat that effort, she should be hard to beat. There might be a bit of a question mark about her on this rain softened ground. These sprints are hard to call and they can throw up some funny results, when the ground is like this, it pays to be on the stands’ side rail at Goodwood so her draw of six should be alright.
