STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Championship Betting Tips – 6–7 November
Another round of Championship fixtures gets underway on Friday night, with plenty of interesting matches to look forward to, writes LOUIE TRUMAN.
With League One and League Two clubs playing their FA Cup first round fixtures this weekend, this week’s article will focus on the Championship. I’ve picked out three selections from the division.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Derby vs Bolton
Bolton travel to Pride Park on Friday evening, looking to secure back-to-back Championship wins after beating Charlton Athletic 1-0 in midweek. Sam Dalby’s 18th-minute strike was enough to give Wanderers all three points on Tuesday night, and they will fancy their chances against a struggling Derby side.
It has been a disappointing campaign for John Eustace’s team, who find themselves second from bottom after 14 matches. The Rams have picked up just one win this season, drawing four and losing nine.
Defensively, Derby have been poor, conceding an average of two goals per game. They have also suffered four defeats in their previous five matches, including heavy losses against Millwall and Norwich. Wanderers will take confidence from their win at The Valley, while Derby have shown very little improvement in recent weeks. I fancy the visitors to come away with three points. Star Sports are currently offering this selection at 13/8.

Wrexham vs Wolves
Wrexham welcome Wolves to the Racecourse Ground on Saturday. Phil Parkinson’s side have struggled to find consistency this season, with the Red Dragons currently sitting 16th after 14 matches. However, Wrexham will be full of confidence following their 2-0 win over Middlesbrough on Wednesday. George Thomason and Ollie Rathbone both scored in the closing stages to secure an important three points. Despite their slow start to the campaign, Wrexham are only six points behind the play-off places.
Wolves have made a strong start to life back in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League. Cesar Peixoto’s side currently sit second in the table and are unbeaten in their previous five league games. Wolves secured a 2-1 win against Bristol City in midweek, with Sean Neave scoring twice after his side went 1-0 down.
Both teams have scored in six of Wrexham’s seven home league matches this season, while five of Wolves’ seven away fixtures have also seen both sides score. Wolves have scored 25 goals in their opening 14 Championship matches and are unbeaten in their previous five. Wrexham will be full of confidence following their 2-0 win over Middlesbrough, and with both sides showing they carry an attacking threat, I fancy both teams to get on the scoresheet, which is priced at 4/6 with Star Sports.

Cardiff vs Burnley
Cardiff face Burnley on Saturday afternoon: the Bluebirds will aim to continue their impressive home record. Cardiff are unbeaten in their last seven home matches, and they’ve picked up eight points from their previous five league outings.
Brian Barry-Murphy’s side will be disappointed after throwing away a 3-0 lead against West Ham in midweek, eventually drawing 3-3. However, Cardiff currently sit 18th in the Championship, five points clear of the relegation zone.
Burnley have had a difficult start to the current campaign,, winning just one of their opening 14 league matches. The Clarets are 22nd in the table, four points from safety, but they have picked up consecutive draws against Portsmouth and QPR.
Cardiff to win both halves is my best bet for this fixture. The Bluebirds have been difficult to beat at home, and their recent results have been encouraging. Burnley have struggled for consistency, and I fancy Cardiff to take advantage and pick up all three points. Star Sports are currently offering this selection at 23/10.
