Competition winner Pete Hamill from RiskForRewards said on Friday night: “That ended up being a real nail biter and I needed to wait for the official result to come through from Star to check my maths were right!

“I started the final day well with Majborough, 6/1 winner of the Triumph, but knew it was going to be a long afternoon.

“Dave McManus put pressure on me when he struck with Sine Nomine at 8/1 and it really all came down to the last race when Dave’s nap Waterford Whispers finished second which sealed it for me.

“The most important thing is all the finalists have raised some money for their chosen charities and thanks to Star’s generosity I an delighted that my chosen charity St Oswalds Hospice in Newcastle will receive a donation of £1,000.

“It’s been great fun and I’d like to thank everyone who took part and also Star’s team for organising and supporting a great and quite unique tipping contest”.

ROUND TWO – WEDNESDAY

… and then we were down to a dozen. With two odds-on shots winning the first two races and an abandoned Cross Country Chase it was always going to come down to how the cards fell in just a couple of races.

Tom Stanley took the performance of the day award with a stratospheric profit of 52.16 points – napping 12/1 winner Unexpected Party to boost his profit after a stunning first race place return from Jimmy De Seuil (66/1 runner-up) and Captain Guinness 17/2 winner of the Champion Chase.

Captain Guinness was also a winner for Emma Nagle and Bill Esdaile but not enough to save him when Stephen Harris knocked in two late winners in injury time!

After naming the first six winners on the opening day Lee Gibson suffered from the bounce factor on day two and was eliminated at the hands of James Knight.

We bid farewell to Mike, Lee, Jordan, Bill, Paul, David, Anthony, Tim, Katie, Johnny, Tony and ICY and thank them all for taking part and wish our 12 semi-finalists the best of luck. Full results and Thursday draw below.

+8.09 Emma Nagle v Mike Cattermole -11.00

The competition got off to an explosive start on Tuesday with the standout tipping performance coming from Lee Gibson who named the FIRST SIX WINNERS !!!! Bravo Lee.

HOW IT WORKS:

Our 48 runners will go into the draw which is being conducted later this week by DAVY RUSSELL and HANNAH BAYCROFT at the Star Sports Curzon Street shop in London’s Mayfair. A video of the draw will appear on this page.

The 48 will then do battle in match format trying to get through to the final day on Friday when our winner will be crowned:

DAY 1: Tuesday (48 tipsters)
24 x 2 runner matches

DAY 2: Wednesday (24 tipsters)
12 x 2 runner matches

DAY 3: Thursday (12 tipsters)
6 x 2 runner matches

DAY 4: Friday (6 tipsters in the final – all receive a prize)
1 x 6 runner match

Our tipster’s selections will appear on this page in advance. They will need to make a selection in each race (win or ew) and nominate a NAP (which will count double points in the scoring).

In the event of a tie in any match – we will use countback on number of winners, seconds, thirds etc to establish a winner.

David Stewart, head of content and social media for Star Sports said: “Cheltenham Knockout proved a great success last year and we are delighted to be running it again with an increased field of 48 runners.

“Alongside the fun of the competition we are also supporting charities through both the prize fund for the winning tipsters and via any profits made on the Knockout betting markets.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how the draw unfolds and wish every pundit the very best of luck.”

CHELTENHAM KNOCKOUT – THE RULES:

(1) Our 48 nominated tipsters will battle it out over the four days of the Cheltenham Festival 12th-15th March 2023 in an ‘FA Cup’ style knockout match format.

(2) There will be 24 first round matches on the first day, Tuesday 12th March. The tipster will be required to beat their opponent. For each match the tipster who wins their match progresses to the next round, the losing tipster is eliminated from the competition. The daily score will be calculated based on the performance of their selections.

(3) Tipsters are required to make one selection in every Cheltenham race of the day. They can stipulate whether this selection is win or each way. For a win bet a notional 2 points is staked on their selection, for an each-way selection a notional 1 point is staked each way ie: 1 point win and 1 point place.

(4) In addition they will be required to nominate a daily best bet (NAP) which counts for double points. So for a win nap a notional 4 points will be staked, for each-way 2 points on both win and place.

(5) Results will be settled at starting price – and include any Rule 4 deductions. Place terms will be the same as the starsports.bet race markets. Dead-heat rules may also apply if applicable.

(6) In the event of a non runner or late withdrawal your selection will be automatically replaced by the SP favourite (for joint or co favs this will be deemed to be be the one with the lowest racecard number). Your original stake will apply eg: 2 points win or 1 point each way (double if it’s your nap choice).

(7) At the end of each day we will score each entry based on the above criteria. In the event of a dead-heat in round 1 we will deploy a count back system to determine the match winner. This will be based on number of winners and if still level, seconds, then thirds until a winner is found. From round two and the remaining rounds in the event of a tie we will take into account the aggregate score from that tipster in previous round(s) to determine the winner so previous good tipping is rewarded. If still a dead-heat then count back will then apply.

(8) The match format applies to day 1,2,3. On the final day (Friday) six tipsters progress to the final and they will compete against each other on this day to determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th.

(9) Scores are reset at the end of each round so each round starts with both tipsters on ZERO.

(10) Selections must be supplied to Star Sports no later than 11am on the day of racing. Tipsters will be notified on entry mechanism,

(11) Daily selections will appear from 12pm each day on this web site.

(12) On the conclusion of the competition we will contact the prize winners to arrange their prizes (starsports.bet account required) and also arrange to make the stipulated donations to their nominated charity.

(13) Star Sports reserve the right to adjust any rules which will be updated here.
