PRESS RELEASE: Ben Wallace favourite to replace Lord Allen as BHA Chair

Former Defence Secretary Ben Wallace is the early favourite with Star Sports to replace Lord Allen as the next Chair of the British Horseracing Authority.

Wallace is the 4/1 frontrunner for the role, ahead of BHA Interim Chair Julia Tyson at 5/1 and Baroness Minette Batters, who is a former National Farmers’ Union president and director of Salisbury Racecourse, at 6/1.

David Armstrong is priced at 15/2 (corrected), with former Conservative cabinet minister Matt Hancock available at 8/1.

William Kedjanyi, Political Betting Analyst at Star Sports, said: “With Lord Allen resigning as BHA Chair after only six months in the role, there may not be a host of candidates leaping to throw their hats into the ring for the vacant position.

“Former Conservative Party Defence Minister Ben Wallace, who lists horse racing among his interests, is our current favourite for the job at 4/1, closely followed by BHA Interim Chair Julia Tyson at 5/1.

“Baroness Minette Batters, who rode 30 point-to-point winners and was Director of Salisbury Racecourse and President of the National Farmers’ Union before taking a seat in the House of Lords, is next in the market at 6/1.

“David Armstrong is 15/2 in the betting, while Matt Hancock is an 8/1 chance.”
