NEWCASTLE v EVERTON PREVIEW

Newcastle will be looking to bounce back in front of their home supporters after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Everton in Thursday night’s EFL Cup fourth-round clash.

Matthias Jaissle’s side were comfortably beaten on Merseyside, with James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry all finding the net before Dan Burn grabbed a late consolation.

The Magpies did, however, enjoy a positive afternoon in their previous Premier League outing, claiming a convincing 2-0 victory away at Crystal Palace.

They have endured an inconsistent start to the campaign, though, and will need to improve defensively after conceding 14 goals in their opening eight league matches.

Everton, meanwhile, arrive on Tyneside full of confidence after securing their place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals at Newcastle’s expense.

David Moyes’ side had previously suffered consecutive 2-0 Premier League defeats against Chelsea and Arsenal, and will be eager to translate their midweek cup success into a much-needed league victory.

The Toffees are still searching for their first away win in the Premier League this season, but having beaten Newcastle in each of their last two meetings, they will certainly fancy their chances.
