MANCHESTER UNITED v ASTON VILLA PREVIEW

A stirring comeback from 2-0 down on Tuesday saw life returned to Old Trafford that hadn’t been seen for weeks whilst also possibly saving United’s beleaguered manager so he and all the Red Devils will be hoping for a repeat of their second half performance. The heart shown from a dire position, particular from Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, will be encouraging along with the pressure they had put on Roma before Fernandes’s retaken penalty.

However they will need to carry on that form and maybe more if they’re to get the better of an Aston Villa side which could present a different test for United to pass today. When pushing to get back into the game, dominating the ball and using a high line brought out the best in United’s team on the pitch as Roma crumbled, but Unai Emery’s Villa are likely to provide stiffer resistance here.

After a slow start to begin the season – understandable given the summer departures of Emi Martinez, Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins – Villa have found their feet both in the Premier League and the Champions League, with victories against Club Brugge (3-2), Fenerbahçe (6-0), and Viking (3-1) before a 3-0 defeat against Barcelona when they played better than the scoreline would suggest, and they’ve gone five games unbeaten in the Premier League including a 2-1 victory against Manchester City.

They made heavy weather of a 1-1 draw against Fulham last weekend but a goalkeeping howler from Zion Suzuki cost them three points and they created big first-half chances at the Camp Nou before the gulf in class between them showed.

They will also fancy their chances of putting pressure on United’s midfield with John McGinn hoping to take advantage of Carlos Baleba’s absence, whilst Lisandro Martinez’s suspension means that Ayden Heaven, who has been heavily targeted so far this season, faces a tough examination from Nicolas Jackson, who has seven goals in his last eight appearances.

Johan Manzambi has also made a real impact of late – he’s producing a goal or assist every 77 minutes in the Premier League this season and is linking very effectively with Jackson. Both of them will fancy their chances against a United defence that has conceded at least two goals in nine of their 14 games this season.

WHERE’S THE BETTING VALUE IN MANCHESTER UNITED v ASTON VILLA?

United’s second-half comeback against Roma deserves credit, but odds of 11/10 with starsports.bet make absolutely no appeal given their overall season and they’ll find it very hard to pull off a similar feat against Aston Villa if they start sluggishly. Villa have lost just one of seven league games (to league leaders and champions Arsenal), are unbeaten in five and haven’t lost away in the top flight since a threadbare team was thrashed 4-0 at Brighton on the opening weekend.

United were winless in nine matches before their midweek comeback against Roma and 21/10 on Aston Villa is too big. Side with them in what has the potential to be a very eventful game.
